LED Lowcountry Participates in Built to Honor™ program

Giving back to the community is important for all of us at LED Lowcountry. We recently had the honor of giving back to someone who has sacrificed so much for our country through a program called Built to Honor.

Sponsored by PulteGroup, Built to Honor™ program provides mortgage-free homes to deserving wounded veterans across the country. Launched in 2013, PulteGroup operations across the nation have banded together to support this effort, having built 30 new homes worth upwards of $9 million for deserving wounded veterans.

LED Lowcountry was one of many trade partners and organizations — including Centex and the Military Warriors Support Foundation — that helped make Built to Honor’s 50th home possible for U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Clark “Jey” Johnson and his family.

Staff Sgt. Johnson served 16 years on active duty in Bosnia, Kuwait and Iraq. Johnson was involved in an IED strike in 2006 that caused injuries to his neck and head. A short month later, he suffered shrapnel injury to his right hand that resulted in several surgeries. In 2012, Staff Sgt. Johnson was medically retired from the Army and received the following awards for his service:

• Purple Heart
• 3 ARCOMS
• GWAT-E
• GWAT-S
• Iraqi Campaign Medal – 2 Stars
• NATO Service Ribbon
• NATO Medal
• Expeditionary Medal
• Combat Action Badge
• 4-OSR
• 4-GCM
• NDSM
• NCOPD
• Army Service Ribbon

Staff Sgt. Johnson, his wife Shanna picked a spot on the PulteGroup’s map, and they chose to move from Colorado to Bluffton to start their new lives. A parade of new neighbors, community leaders, business owners and organizational staff were on hand for a heart-warming ceremony to welcome the Johnson family to their new home for the first time.

Thank you, Staff Sgt. Johnson, for your service.
